Hi, I’m Laura Hanek
Wrangler of Ideas & Red Junglefowl
I'm an artist turned designer and specialize in illustration and graphic recording.
After getting my Bachelor of Applied Arts in Illustration from Sheridan College, I felt ready and excited to use my artistic skills and design knowledge in the business world. Instead, I found myself churning out social media content. Clients focused on trying to look a certain way or keep up with the trends. I focused on giving them what they requested, not what they needed.
Then I discovered graphic recording. Captivated by the industry, I immediately started training. I loved listening to the differing reactions of participants. My work gave clarity to some and encouraged thought in others. It reenergized me; this is what I needed to be doing.
Blending my education in design with my recent visual facilitation training, I am back to intentionally organizing information. Now I help clients work through problem-solving and structure information in a way that's easier for everyone to understand. I am living out my dream of quietly working behind the scenes to lift, encourage, and impact.
A nerdy rebel, Laura became a curler while being raised in a hockey town, a designer that drinks green tea, and knows a shocking amount about poultry for someone with an applied arts degree.
Currently living in Petawawa, ON, she splits her time between keeping her kitties from destroying her office and bringing her chickens on Zoom calls at her clients’ request.
